Meet the Team - Richard Gurmin

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to the people behind Securistyle. First in our series is Richard Gurmin, Head of Commercial Business Development, who shared with us his 22 years of experience at Securistyle.

What is your job title?

Head of Commercial Business Development – Export.

How long have you worked at Securistyle?

22 years.

Describe your job in three words.

Different every day.

In your view, what are the key trends in the industry right now?

For export construction it is the continuing drive towards taller buildings with a striking aesthetic façade.

Describe a typical workday for you.

I don’t really have one, as I travel frequently I can be in China one week, back in the office the next and then in Sweden or somewhere in between.

What do you like most about working at Securistyle?

The variety and the people.

What is your favourite project you’ve worked on recently?

We have just launched our 300mm opening Parallel hinge which was installed on a project in Beijing called Electric City which I have visited many times over the last two years, but it was great to see it in construction back in April.

Can you tell us about any exciting projects that you’re working on right now?

I’m working on the Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area in Nantong where we have recently supplied all of the Parallel openings for the HaiMen University and have a further 22 buildings to supply over the next 10 years.

What do you enjoy when not working?

I still go to gigs, on average two per month. Mostly old Punk with a mix of Alternative and Metal. The scene is still vibrant and the people are great.

What’s your favourite quote?

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be – Douglas Adams.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Can’t really remember as it was so long ago, but probably an F1 driver as I used to be obsessed back in the early to mid 70s.

What are the values that drive you?

Friendship, honesty, integrity, commitment and a belief in others.
