Significant energy savings delivered at ASSA ABLOY Cheltenham site

Improvements at the ASSA ABLOY centre of excellence for window hardware in Cheltenham have significantly increased the site’s energy efficiency, part of the business’ mission to embed sustainability into everything it does.

Changes to air compression and lighting have led to annual savings of 156,000KWh and 54,000kg Co2e per year.

“Sustainability is massively important to us, and our dedicated team of sustainability champions have done great work in improving energy efficiency at our Cheltenham site,” comments Simon Mapp, ASSA ABLOY Engineering Manager. “This has allowed the centre to operate more efficiently, innovatively, and healthily.”

The improvements have included the installation of a new variable air compressor, reducing electricity consumption by 76kW per hour and increasing energy efficiency by 46%.

In addition, the centre has replaced 400W bay lights in units E and F, which had become out of position, with low-maintenance 110W smart LED lights featuring PIR (person-in-range) capability. This, along with the corrected positioning, has both reduced energy consumption by 72.5% and created a safer working environment.
